Mentoring and career counselling are employee development tools that provide huge benefits both to the organization and to the individual, if they are successfully applied. Not so much has been written regarding the career counselling concept which is one of the roles of mentoring, although much writings are available in mentoring and counselling. Mentors, as career counsellors, help individuals to be a good and active learner and be satisfied regarding individual careers, in addition to the enhancement of performance level of the organization. This study focuses on career counselling role of mentors, after a short look through the mentoring and career counselling concepts. In this study, individual career concept is analyzed, group counselling is not considered.

Rehberlik (mentoring) ve kariyer danışmanlığı (career counselling), başarılı uygulanması durumunda hem örgüte hem de bireye büyük faydalar sağlayan çalışanları geliştirme araçlarıdır. Rehberlik ve danışmanlık alanında çok şey yazılırken, rehberin rollerinden birisi olan kariyer danışmanlığı konusunda çok az şey yazılmıştır. Kariyer danışmanı olarak rehberler, tüm örgütün performans düzeyinde yükselmenin yanı sıra bireylerin iyi ve aktif bir öğrenici olmasına ve bireysel kariyer açısından tatmin olmasına yardımcı olurlar. Çalışmada rehber ve rehberlik kavramlarına kısa bir bakıştan sonra rehberin kariyer danışmanlığı rolü üzerine odaklanılmıştır. Çalışmada bireysel kariyer danışmanlığı incelenmiş, grup danışmanlığı üzerinde durulmamıştır.
