MİNERAL TRİOKSİT AGREGAT VE PEDODONTİDEKİ ÖNEMİ

MINERAL TRIOXIDE AGGREGATE AND THE IMPORTANCE IN PEDIATRIC DENTISTRY

Journal Name:

Publication Year:

Abstract (2. Language):
Mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA), consists mainly of tricalcium silicate, tricalcium aluminate, tricalcium oxide and bismuth oxide, and has recently been investigated as a potential alternative restorative material to the presently used materials in endodontic/restorative applications. It was developed and recommended initially as a root-end filling material and subsequently has been used for pulp capping, pulpotomy, apical barrier formation on teeth with open apexes, apexogenesis, and repair of root or furcation perforations. Several in vitro and in vivo studies have shown that MTA prevents microleakage, is biocompatible, and promotes regeneration of the original tissues when it is placed in contact with the dental pulp or periradicular tissues. Recently pediatric dentists have successfully employed MTA in a variety of endodontic/restorative applications. The aim of this study was to present a review of the reported literature on: composition, the physical and chemical properties, setting reaction, manipulation, and clinical applications of MTA in the practice of pediatric dentistry.
