Abstract (2. Language):
Adaptation of the Personal Growth Initiative Scale. The study of validity and reliability. This study investigated the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the Personal Growth Initiative Scale (PGIS; Robitschek, 1998). The sample of study consists of 336 high school students. Results of language equivalency showed that the correlation coefficients between Turkish and English forms ranged from .72 to .82. Results of exploratory factor analysis showed that the 9 items loaded on one factor. The total variance explained was 37% and factor loadings ranged from .48 to .70. Fit index values of the model were RMSEA=.055, NFI=.96, CFI=.98, IFI=.98, GFI=.97, AGFI=.94. For concurrent validity the correlations between PGIS and Self-compassion Scale were calculated. PGIS was found positively related to selfkindness, awareness of common humanity, and mindfulness. The internal consistency reliability coefficient of the scale was found as .90 and the test-retest reliability coefficient was found as .94. Also the corrected item-total correlations ranged from .37 to .57. These results demonstrate that this scale is a valid and reliable instrument.
