The Debate Between Kantian and Feminist Ethics on the Conception of Personal Autonomy

Abstract (2. Language): 
This paper introduces the normative foundations of ethics of care; exposes its distinguishing features compared with ethics of right with respect to the conception of personal autonomy; and explains which theory of personal autonomy is most proper to ethics of care. In particular, it shows that the starting point of feminist conception of autonomy, most notably Meyers’s account, is very consonant with Kant’s philosophical target. Though the feminist competencybased theory of autonomy leaves some room for the Kantian sense of autonomy this does not mean that care actions are autonomous actions and have moral value in Kantian sense. These two conceptions are radically distinct. I suggest that their distinctiveness arises from their commitment on the priority of autonomy and some other moral values, and vise versa. For the Kantian account, feminist conception seeks autonomy on some heteronymous conditions, which the ethics of care adheres substantial values.

Bu makalenin amacı koruyucu etiğin moral temelini tanıtmak, koruyucu etik ile Kantçı etik yaklaşımların özerklik bağlamında farklılıklarını irdelemek; koruyucu etiğe en uygun bireysel özerklik kuramının ne olabileceği sorusunu araştırmaktır. Feminist özerklik anlayışına getirilen eleştirileri karşılamaya çalışırken Meyers’in geliştirdiği yeterlilik temelli özerklik anlayışının aslında Kant’ın karşı çıktığı geleneksel özerklik anlayışıyla temelde benzer olduğunu göstermeye çalışacağım. Yeterlilik temelli özerklik yaklaşımının bazı boyutlarında Kantçı anlamda özerk olmak mümkün olsa da bu durum koruyucu eylemlerin Kantçı anlamda özerk eylemler olduğunu ve etik değere sahip olduklarını göstermez. Bu iki özerklik anlayışı temelde farklıdır. Bu farklılık, özerkliğin değeri ile diğer bazı etik değerler arasındaki öncelik konusundaki yaklaşımdan kaynaklanmaktadır. Kantçı yaklaşıma göre feminist yaklaşım özerkliği bazı yaderklik koşullarında aramaktadır. Feminist etiğe göre ise Kant’ın yaderklik olarak gördüğü bu durumlarda önemli etik değerler vardır.
