Abstract (2. Language): 
Social studies lesson is a leading lesson in terms of preparing a person to life and making one to be able to become as a whole with the society. Therefore, the appropriate methods and techniques in instructing the lesson have great importance on forming an efficient society. In recent social studies curriculums, it is focused on the necessity of the new instruction methods in which the students participate the lesson actively rather than an instructor-centered traditional method limiting the students' participation to the lesson. However, it is seen that this instruction methods are not sufficiently practiced by the teachers. This is resulted by the reasons like teachers' having inadequate information about the methods and the inappropriate physical conditions of the schools. In order to achieve a more efficient social studies instruction, this study which focuses on the information system technologies and other technologies, is prepared, with a literature research.

Sosyal Bilgiler dersi öğrencileri hayata hazırlayan ve toplumla bütünleşmesini sağlayan derslerin başında gelmektedir. Bu sebeple, bu dersin uygun yöntem ve tekniklerle anlatılması eğitimli bir toplumun oluşması açısından büyük önem taşımaktadır. Son yıllarda hazırlanan Sosyal Bilgiler programlarında, öğrencinin derse katılımını sınırlandıran öğretmen merkezli geleneksel yöntemler yerine, öğrencinin derse aktif olarak katıldığı yeni öğretim yöntemlerinin benimsenmesi gerektiği üzerinde durulmuştur. Ancak bu öğretim yöntemlerinin öğretmenler tarafından yeterince uygulanmadığı görülmektedir. Bunda öğretmenlerin yeterli bilgiye sahip olmayışı, uygun fiziki koşulların sağlanamayışı gibi nedenler etkili olmuştur. Bu eksikliği tespit ederek daha etkili bir Sosyal Bilgiler Öğretiminin yapılabilmesi için, Coğrafi Bilgi Sistemleri teknolojisi ile diğer teknolojik gelişmelerden yararlanılması gerektiği üzerinde duran bu çalışma, literatür taraması yapılarak hazırlanmıştır.
