Abstract (2. Language): 
The act of translation, which is as old as the history of humanity, has been analyzed in the framework of various theoretical approaches. The aim of target-oriented theory and skopos theory formulated in the second half of the twentieth century is to describe the nature of translation in its proper sense. However, the post-colonial approach avoids dealing with translation in its dictionary meaning -the act of transforming a text written in a given source language to a text written in a given target language- and prefers to see it as the basis of all acts of intercultural communication. This study focuses on the ways translation is defined and analyzed by the prominent post-colonial critics, Homi Bhabha and Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak. It also deals with how the new approach to translation developed by the post-colonial critics can be interpreted and internalized by the translators whose work will inevitably be influenced by the new responsibilities assigned to them.

İnsanlık tarihi kadar eski bir eylem olan çeviri, farklı dönemlerde farklı kuramsal bakış açıları ışığında incelenmiştir. XX. yüzyılın ikinci yarısında etkin olan erek-odaklı kuram ile skopos kuramının amacı, gerçek çeviri eyleminin doğasını açıklamak olarak belirlenebilir. Ancak günümüzde egemen olan sömürgecilik-sonrası yaklaşım, çeviriyi sözlük anlamı -bir kaynak metnin başka bir dilde yazılmış bir erek metne dönüştürülmesi- ile değil, kültürlerarası iletişimin yapıtaşı olarak ele almaktadır. Bu çalışmada sömürgecilik-sonrası yaklaşımın önde gelen temsilcilerinden Homi Bhabha ile Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak'ın çeviri eylemini nasıl tanımladıkları ve ne şekilde inceledikleri tartışılacak ve sömürgecilik-sonrası yaklaşımın çeviri eylemine yüklediği yeni anlamlar ile sorumlulukların çevirmenler tarafından nasıl algılanabileceği ele alınacaktır.
