Abstract (2. Language): 
The increasing number of regional and global organizations in international system and the integration efforts among the states that paved the way for the establishment of those organizations, caused the formulation of new theories in the discipline of international relations to describe and explain the integration and its importance. Those theories, that have grown since the 1950s, established their own formulations based on the European Union (EU) example, and they aimed to explain the integration of European states. The basic goal of this work is to assess the validity of those integration theories’ assumptions considering the EU example, along with their deficiencies and contribution to the International Relations discipline. In Turkey, where the EU membership gains importance, there is not enough academic research about the integration theories investigating the establishment of the EU. Because of this, this work, that fills the gap in this area, is increasingly important. In this work, firstly, each theory is investigated seperately andthen those theories are analysed comparatively, finally evaluated generally. Consequently, the thesis of this research is as fallows: integration theories are successful to explain economic and social integration, however they are insufficient to foresee impossible political integration.

Uluslararası sistemde sayıları giderek artan bölgesel ve evrensel örgütler ve bu örgütlerin oluşumuna yol açan devletler arasındaki entegrasyon çabaları, uluslararası ilişkiler disiplininde entegrasyonu ve önemini izah etmeyi amaç edinen yeni teorilerin oluşmasına neden olmuştur. Özellikle 1950lerden itibaren gelişmeye başlayan bu teoriler, genelde Avrupa bütünleşmesini ele alarak Avrupa Birliği (AB) örneği üzerinden kendi formulasyonlarını oluşturmuşlar ve Avrupa devletlerinin entegrasyonunu açıklamayı kendilerine amaç edinmişlerdir. Bu çalışmanın amacı, AB örneğini de göz önünde tutarak bu teorilerin varsayımlarının ne derece doğru olduğunu ortaya çıkarmak, söz konusu teorilerin uluslararası ilişkiler disiplinine yaptığı katkıları ve eksik kalan yönlerini saptamaktır. AB’nin ve AB üyeliğinin önem kazandığı Türkiye’de, söz konusu örgütün oluşumunu irdeleyen teoriler konusunda herhangi bir akademik çalışmanın olmayışı, AB’nin anlaşılması konusunda önemli bir eksikliğe sebep olmakta ve bundan dolayı da bu çalışmanın önemini arttırmaktadır. Çalışmada öncelikle bu teoriler ayrı ayrı incelenmiş, her birinin ileri sürdüğü argümanlar, uluslararası ilişkiler disiplinine getirdikleri katkılar ve eleştiriye uğradıkları noktalar ele alınmıştır. Sonrasında ise bu teoriler karşılıklı olarak analiz edilmişve genel bir değerlendirmeye tabi tutulmuştur. Sonuçta bu çalışmada ileri sürülen tez, entegrasyon teorilerinin ekonomik ve sosyal boyutlardaki bütünleşmeyi açıklamakta başarılı oldukları, ancak siyasal boyutta sağlanamayan bütünleşmeyi öngörme konusunda yetersiz kaldıkları yönündedir.
