In June 2000, an article published in a medical journal proposed the concept of informationist and a profession called informationist profession. In the article, informationist were proposed as information professionals who will basically meet the information needs of the people working in medical and health fields. This proposal guided to several discussions among the leading people, associations and organizations of medical and health sciences librarianship field. While some librarians had positive considerations about the proposal, some rejected it. The present paper discusses the informationist concept, the reasons for the existence of the informationist, 'Clinical Medical Librarianship' (CML) practices, proposed informationist program, guiding principles and the education of the informationist. Finally, the concept is considered in regard to the Turkish reality.

2000 Haziranında bir tıp dergisinde enformasyonist kavramını ve enformasyonistlik mesleğini öneren bir makale yayımlanmıştır. Makalede enformasyonistler, temelde tıp ve sağlık alanlarında çalışanların bilgi gereksinimlerini karşılayacak bilgi uzmanları olarak önerilmiştir. Bu öneri, tıp ve sağlık bilimleri kütüphaneciliğinin önde gelen kişi, dernek ve kurumlarını çeşitli tartışmalara yöneltmiştir. Bazı kütüphaneciler öneri hakkında olumlu düşünürlerken, bazıları öneriyi reddetmişlerdir. Bu bildiride enformasyonist kavramı, enformasyonistin varlığını gerektiren sebepler, 'kliniklerdeki tıp kütüphaneciliği' (KTK) uygulamaları, önerilen enformasyonist programı, rehber ilkeler ve enformasyonistle-rin eğitimi tartışılmıştır. Son olarak kavram, Türkiye gerçeği açısından ele alınmıştır.
