AN UPDATE ON FEBRILE SEIZURES

Abstract (2. Language):
Febrile seizures are a frequent clinical problem. The emer¬gency therapy of febrile seizures is identical to other forms of cerebral seizures. One major aim of the diagnostic work-up is the exclusion of meningitis or encephalitis. The EEG is a poor prognostic tool in terms of evaluating the risk of recurring febrile seizures or the development of epilepsy later in life. Intermittent use of diazepam or continuous antiepileptic treatment are the main strategies of prophylaxis. Indications should be carefully evaluated before starting either treatment programmes.
