Konumuzun ehemmiyeti yakın zamanda cereyan eden iki hâdise ile bilhassa ortaya çıkmaktadır. Bu hâdiselerden birincisini başladığından bir hafta sonra sona eren güney Almanyadaki metal işçileri grevi, ikincisini de «İnşaat İşçileri Sendikası»nm (Bauarbei-tergewerksehaft) işverenlerle yaptığı kollektif pazarlıklarda tatbik etmeğe başlamış olduğu yeni metodlar teşkil etmektedir.
Metal işçilerinin grevi ikinci cihan harbinden beri yapılan sendika mücadelelerinin en büyüğü olması dolayısiyle bilhassa büyük ehemmiyeti haizdir. Hernekadar «Şlezvig - Holştayn» (Schleswig-Holstein) ve «Bavyerada» (Bayern) bu sanayi kolunda iki grev yapılmışsa da, bunlar sadece bölgevî bir ehemmiyet taşımakta idiler. Son yapılan metal işçileri grevinde ise durum bütün metal sanayiini kapsayan bir umumî greve doğru inkişâf ederken, geleceğin başbakanı Prof. Erhard'ın müdahalesi ile son dakikada durdurulabilmiş-tir. Bu grev Alman halkının ve bilhassa Alman işvereninin, Alman işçisinin erişmiş olduğu yüksek hayat standardının (işçiler içinde en yüksek hayat standardına sahip sınıfı maden işçileri ve metal işçileri teşkil etmektedir), «sosyal piyasa ekonomisi» sayesinde gerçekleşen iktisadî ve sosyal büyümedeki beraberliğin ve bir sıra «halk tahvilleri», «işçi mülkiyeti» gibi sosyal kanunların bu derece büyük bir sosyal mücadelenin doğmasını önleyecek birer âmil oldukları istikametindeki tasavvur ve hayallerini tekzib etmiştir.
