Aim: To determine the eficacy and possible complications of autulogous serum application in patients with dry eye. Methods: 27patients, nine with Sjögren's syndrome, were included in the study. İn addition to their previous med-İcations, patients were adm'ınistered drops which were prepared by diluting their own serum to 20% with şaline. Symptoms, tear charactehstics and ocular surface parameters were evaluated. Results: Statisticaliy significant improvements in symptoms and ocular surface parameters were observed in 40% of the patients at the 15th day and in 85% of the patients at the 30th day. Tear charactehstics did not show any diffference throughout the study. Although cultures revealed contamination in three patients, no clinically significant infection or any other complication was encountered. Conclusion: Autologous serum applications can be an efficient and safe adjunct treatment for dry eye patients who do not show improvement with other medications.

Amaç: Kuru göz hastalarında otolog serum uygulamsının etkinliğinin ve olası kompllkasyonlarının belirlenmesi. Yöntem: Dokuzu Sjögren sendromlu 27 hasta çalışma kapsamına alındı. Hastalara kullanmakta oldukları ilaçlara ek olarak kendi serumlarının, serum fizyolojikle %20 oranında seyreitilmesiyie elde edilen damlalardan uygulandı. Hastalar yakınmaları, gözyaşı karakteristikleri ve oküler yüzey parametreleri açısından değerlendirildi. Olası kontaminasyonu belirlemek amacıyla damlalıklardan kültür için örnekler alındı. Bulgular: Hastaların %40'ında ilk 15 gün içinde, %85'inde ise birinci ayın sonunda yakınmalarda ve oküler yüzey parametrelerinde istatistiksel olarak anlamlı iyileşmeler saptandı. Kültürlerin üç hastanın damlalıklarından alınan örneklerde kontaminasyon olduğunu ortaya koymasına karşın enfeksiyon ya da başkaca bir kompllkasyona rastlanmadı. Sonuç: Otolog serum uygulaması diğer ilaçlarla yeterli düzelme sağlanamayan kuru göz hastalarında etkili ve güvenilir bir ek tedavi seçeneği olabilir.
