Promotion systems are the premises of the hierarchical and paramilitary organizations and police job satisfaction, as well. However, there are some contradictory studies in the literature in terms of the relationship between promotion systems, rank and job satisfaction. This manuscript employs meta-analysis to examine the reasons of the contradictory studies on police job satisfaction and promotion systems-rank and to identify systematic relationships among the studies. In order to use in meta-analysis, there were 44 studies which presented statistical data and number related to job satisfaction, promotion system and rank variables. Hence, only 44 studies were included in this meta-analysis. The significant commonalities according to the results of this meta-analysis are the year of the publications, the country and the response rate of the studies. These results show that to increase police officers’ job satisfaction and better motivate them, administrators in police forces can establish new promotion system or make better the current system.

Terfi sistemleri, hiyerarşi ve disiplin odaklı mesleklerin temel yapı taşlarındandır. Aynı zamanda, polislerin iş tatmininde de önem arz etmektedir. Buna rağmen, terfi sistemleri ve rütbe-iş tatmini arasındaki ilişki ile ilgili literatürde zıt sonuçlar tespit eden çalışmalar da yok değildir. Bu çalışma, literatürdeki aynı konuda zıt sonuçlar bulan çalışmaların nedenini meta analizi yöntemi kullanarak tespit etmeye yönelik bir çalışmadır. Meta analizde kullanılacak olan iş tatmini, rütbe ve terfi sistemleri ile ilgili yeterli istatistiksel tabloları veya rakamları veren 44 çalışma olduğu tespit edilmiş ve bu çalışmalar analize dâhil edilmiştir. Meta analizi sonuçlarına göre yayınlanmış çalışmaların yayın yılı, ülkesi ve çalışmalardaki katılım oranı literatürdeki bu çalışmaların ortak noktalarını oluşturmaktadır. Bu sonuçlara göre, ulusal polis teşkilatlarındaki yöneticiler çalışanlarının iş tatminlerini yükseltmek, onları daha iyi motive etmek için yeni rütbeler veya yeni terfi sistemleri ihdas edebilirler veya var olanlar üzerinde iyileştirmeler yapabilirler.
