Theories have discussed violence for long. Violence is also the common way of practice used by the PKK terrorist organization, which was on Turkey’s agenda for over 40 years. This study believes that the sources of violence should be explained deeply to give a direction to the country’s public policies on anti-terrorism. Therefore, it aims to identify how sound the causes of violence, mentioned in theories, on the members of the terrorist organization to legitimize their violent actions. Later, this study discusses the actions of the PKK, statements of its ex-members, and theories of violence to find out overlapping causes. Finally, through analysis of the database of 517 PKK members, it examines if there is a difference in sex, education, age, and unemployment between voluntarily and forcibly attendances. Overall, this study attempts to clarify motivations behind attending terror organization and find renovated public policies to prevent new attendances.

eoriler uzun yıllar boyunca şiddetin sebeplerinden bahsetmişlerdir. Şiddet aynı zamanda 40 yılı aşkın süredir Türkiye’nin gündeminde olan PKK terör örgütünün de en fazla başvurduğu yöntemdir. Bu çalışma, terörle mücadele alanında ülkenin kamu politikalarına yön verebilmek için bu şiddete etki eden faktörlerin ortaya konulması gerektiğine inanmaktadır. Bu sebeple öncelikle şiddetin teorilerde bahsedilen sebeplerinden yola çıkarak bu sebeplerin terör örgütü üyelerince şiddet eylemlerini meşru görmede ne kadar etkili olabildiğini incelemiştir. Sonrasında, örgütün eylem ve söylemlerinin yanında örgüt mensupları ile yapılmış röportajlardaki ifadelerin teorideki söylemlerle ne derece örtüştüğünü analiz etmiştir. En sonunda ise, 517 kişilik PKK üyelerinden oluşan veriler ışığında örgüte gönüllü katılanların zorla katılanlara nazaran cinsiyet, eğitim, yaş ve işsizlik durumlarında bir farklılık olup olmadığı ortaya koymaya çalışmıştır. Çalışma, örgüte kalıtıma etki eden sebepleri ortaya koyarak terör örgütüne yeni katılımları önlemek amacıyla yenilenecek kamu politikalarına yön vermeyi hedeflemektedir.
