The relationship between gender and corruption is relatively a new issue especially in economics. Some scholars such as Swamy et al. whose studies are supported by the World Bank have asserted that corruption is less severe in countries where women hold a larger share of parliamentary seats. In (his study, we tested this hypothesis for Turkey by using a data set covering 1987-2006 periods. Our results also show that there is a negative relationship between number of women politicians in local governments and corruption.

Cinsiyet ve yolsuzluk arasındaki ilişki Özellikle iktisat alanı için yeni bir komi sayılabilir. Çalışmaları Dünya Bankası tarafından da destek gören Swaıny ve diğerleri, paıiementolarmda daha fazla kadın temsilci bulunan devletlerde yolsuzluğun daha az görüldüğünü iddia etmişlerdir. Bu çalışmada, sözkonıtsu hipotez 1987 ve 2006 yıllarım kapsayan bir veri seti kullanılarak Türkiye için test edilmiştir. Ulaştığımız sonuçlar, yerel yönetimdeki kadın politikacıların sayısı ile yolsuzluk arasında negatif bir ilişki olduğunu göstermektedir.
