AMELOGENESIS IMPERFECTA (A I) AND THEIR DIFFERENT TYPES

Journal Name:

Publication Year:

Abstract (2. Language):
Amelogenesis Imperfecta (Al) is a hereditary enamel dysplasia involving both dentition. Its prevalance is aproximately 1/14000. A I has been classified into four main types as Hypoplastic Type ( Type I), Hypomatureted Type ( Type II), Hypominer allied Type ( Type III) and Hypomatureted and Hypomineralized AI combined with Taurodontism ( Type IV)( Witkop, 1989 ). This study present four cases of AI, who visited the Depatment of Conservative Dentistry of the University of Istanbul. Clinical and radiological examinations of the patients had shown that these cases exhibit different types of AI. In the first case, which was combined with Taurodontism, a yellow-brown coloured enamel with normal thickness and low radiodensity was noted. These findings resembled Type IV. The second case had very thin hypoplastic enamel with rough surface and low radiodensity, which were the characteristic consistent with the diagnosis of Type I The last two cases, who were sister and brother, presented the clinical and radiological features of Type II. which were yellaw-brown coloured, normal thickness and low radiodensity of enamel. The clinical appearence of AI was more expressive in the dentition of the brother.
