Publication Year:

Abstract (2. Language):
Logical thinking abilities have not only an important role on achievement and understanding concepts but also facilitate problem solving in daily life situations. The differences both in students’ academic achievement and problem solving in everyday life indicate that certain variables affect students’ reasoning ability. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of gender, age and school type on students’ logical thinking abilities. The research was conducted with 586 secondary school students attending three different school types and the age range of the research group students was between 16 and 19. Test of Logical Thinking (TOLT) was administered to determine students’ reasoning abilities and one-way ANOVA was conducted to analyze data. The results of the study revealed that there was statistically significant effect of gender and school type on reasoning ability. As another result of the study, age has no significant effect on students’ logical thinking ability.
