Excessive consumption, unsustainable consumption pattern, sustainable consumption concept and requirement of exposing the sustainable consumption pattern are being discussed in academic and policy area since Brundtland Report which highlighted the environmental implications of contemporary consumption pattern. Besides, it was mentioned the reducing material consumption level and transforming the behavior to more sustainable consumption behavior in order to save the planet In this study, sustinable consumption concept was broadly explained. At first, it was given place to a lot of definitions of sustainable consumption, then scope of sustainable consumption notion was mentioned and finally, given place to stakeholders and deficiencies of sustainable consumption.

Günümüzde sergilenen tüketim kalıplarının olası ekolojik etkilerinin altının çizildiği Brundtland Raporu’ndan beri, aşırı tüketim, sürdürülemez tüketim kalıpları, sürdürülebilir tüketim kavramı ve sürdürülebilir tüketim kalıplarını sergilemenin gerekliliği akademik ve politik alanda sıkça tartışılmaktadır. Ayrıca, gezegenimizi kurtarabilmek için var olan tüketim düzeyini düşürmenin ve tüketim davranışlarını daha sürdürülebilir bir biçime dönüştürmenin gerekliliğine değinilmektedir. Bu çalışmada, sürdürülebilir tüketim kavramı ayrıntılı olarak açıklanmaktadır. Çalışmada, ilk olarak literatürde yer alan pek çok sürdürülebilir tüketim tanımına yer verilmiş, daha sonra sürdürülebilir tüketimin kapsamı hakkında bilgi verilmiştir. Son olarak da, sürdürülebilir tüketim düşüncesinin paydaşları ve sürdürülebilir tüketimin eksiklik ve zayıflıklarına değinilmiştir.
