Leadership was investigated by various aspects in the field of management because of its important role in leading the organization to its goals. The relationship between personality and leadership aroused interest both among scholars and practitioners. This research aims to study the effect of personality traits on leadership styles by drawing a sample of 210 participants from Police Agency. Turkish form of Cloninger’s TCI inventory which consists of temperament and character components and Ogbanna ve Harris’ leadership styles scale were used to collect data. Parametric, nonparametric tests, correlation and regression analyses were used for data analysis purposes. The findings of the study revealed that there are a statistically significant relationship between personality and leadership. Cooperativeness dimension of character and reward dependence and persistence dimensions of temperament explained together 17% of variance in supportive leadership. Results were discussed in terms of contribution to the literature and future research.

Liderlik, örgütleri amaçlarına ulaştırmadaki önemli rolü nedeniyle yönetim alanında çeşitli açılardan incelenmiştir. Kişilik ve liderlik arasındaki ilişki ise hem akademisyenler hem de uygulayıcıların ilgisini çekmiştir. Bu araştırma, Polis Teşkilatından 210 kişilik bir örneklem alınarak kişilik özelliklerinin liderlik stilleri üzerindeki etkisini incelemeyi hedeflemektedir. Cloninger’in karakter ve mizaç bileşenlerinden oluşan TCI envanterinin Türkçe formu ile Ogbanna ve Harris’in Liderlik stilleri ölçeği veri toplama araçları olarak kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen verilerin analiz edilmesi amacıyla parametrik, nonparametrik testler, korelasyon ve regresyon analizleri kullanılmıştır. Yapılan analizler sonucunda, kişilik ve liderlik arasında anlamlı istatistiki bir ilişki bulunmuştur. Ayrıca karakterin işbirliği boyutu ile mizacın sebat ve ödül bağımlılığı boyutları birlikte destekleyici liderlikteki varyansın %17’ sini açıkladığı tespit edilmiştir Sonuçlar liderlik literatürüne katkı ve gelecek araştırmalar açısından tartışılmıştır.
