Abstract (2. Language):
Lambrecht1 following Prince2 (1981) and Chafe (1976) has made a distinction
between identifiable and unidentifiable referents. He explains the difference in the following terminology:
an identifiable referent is one for which a shared representation already exists in the speaker's and listener's mind at the time of the utterance, while an unidentifiable referent is one for which a representation exists only in the speakers mind.
