Global competition has an important pressure fact to the firms regarding quality applications. National or international business’ managers pay a bigger importance to the quality because of the diversification of developing technology and marketing resources. Nowadays quality becomes a usual business component in terms of customers, employees, suppliers and other stakeholders. Companies have a needing about quality certificate or another argument showing its quality proficiency regarding implementing a quality management system. In this paper, ISO and EFQM quality management systems are compared using the findings of literature review. This work includes the comparison results which are made in terms of systems’ main principles, systems’ approaches concerning EFQM’s nine assessment criteria and other eleven effecting factors like financial structure, employees, customers, firm image, etc. Using the findings of comparison results, it can be suggested to the companies that want to apply a quality management system; they should firstly complete the ISO certification and then begin to establish EFQM Excellence Model applications. In results chapter, this suggestion’s reasons and details are scrutinized.

Küresel rekabetin işletmeler üzerinde yarattığı baskı unsurlarından biri de kalite uygulamalarıdır. Gerek ulusal gerekse uluslararası düzeyde faaliyet yürüten tüm işletmeler gelişen teknoloji ve pazarlama olanaklarındaki çeşitlenme nedeniyle kalite faaliyetlerine daha büyük bir önem vermek durumunda kalmaktadırlar. Günümüzde müşteriler, çalışanlar, tedarikçiler ve diğer tüm işletme paydaşları açısından kalite unsuru, işletmelerden beklenen en önemli işletme bileşenlerinden biri konumuna gelmiş bulunmaktadır. İşletmelerin kalite yeterliliklerine sahip olduklarını göstermeleri için ise bir ya da birçok kalite yönetim sistemi uygulayarak bu sisteme ait belge ya da ödüle sahip olmaları gerekliliği doğmuştur. Bu çalışmada söz konusu kalite yönetim sistemlerinden ikisi olan ISO ve EFQM, konuyla ilgili yapılan literatür araştırmasının sonuçları kullanılarak karşılaştırılmaktadır. Çalışmada temel ilkeleri bakımından, EFQM modelinde yer alan dokuz değerlendirme kriterine ilişkin sahip oldukları yaklaşımlar bakımından ve finansal yapı, çalışanlar, müşteriler, firma imajı gibi birbirinden farklı 11 etki unsuru bakımından yapılan karşılaştırmalar sonucunda elde edilen bulgular ortaya konulmaktadır. Elde edilen bilgiler değerlendirilerek kalite yönetim sistemi uygulamasına geçmek isteyen işletmelerin öncelikle ISO belgelendirmesini tamamlaması, ardından EFQM mükemmellik modeli uygulamalarına başlamaları gerektiği sonucuna ulaşılmakta ve bunun nedenleri ayrıntılı olarak sonuç bölümünde irdelenmektedir.
