THE ASPIRATION OF BORDERED PITS IN CONIFER WOOD

Journal Name:

Publication Year:

Abstract (2. Language):
This paper reviews the possible mechanisms of aspiration in bordered pits due to capillary pressure, and the factors affecting pit aspiration in conifer wood. There are three factors involved in pit asriration, any one or combination of those may control it. Those are: Surface tension forces tending to pull the torus into contact with the pit border, rigidity of stiffness of the pit membrane which results in a force opposing the surface tension forces exerted by the evoporating liquid, and adhesion of the torus to the pit border when they are brought into contact.
