Abstract (2. Language):
Echocardiographic evaluation of left ventricuîar funetions in children with ehronic renal disease. Left ventricuîar abnormalities is the leading cause of morbility in ehronic renal faİlure. In this study echocardiographic abnormalities of cardiac funetion and strueture were studied in children (ages betvveen 11-16 years old) with ehronic renal faİlure (n=I0) and with endstage renal failure treated with ehronic hemodialysis (n=10). The results were compared wifb control groups, includirıg healthy children with similar height and weight parameters. Left ventricuîar muscle index was'found to be significantly inereased in both groups (175+60 gr/m2 and 100 g/m2 respectively). Doppler echocardiography studies revealed diastolic dysfunction in end-stage renal failure group witlı normal systolic funetions. Both funetions were in the normal range in ehronic renal failure group. The study demonstrated that severe left ventricuîar abnormalities are common fİndings in children with end-stage renal failure. Despite left ventricuîar hypertrophy, systolic and diastolic funetions were found to be in the normal range in children with ehronic renal failure.
