This study has investigated whether the relationship between inflation and capacity utilization rate above and below the optimal capacity utilization rate which provides the price stability is symmetric. For this purpose, first, optimal capacity utilization rate which provides the price stability has been determined in Turkish case, for the period of 1987:1-2004:4. This rate has been found to be 76 % on average. It has been found that the degree of the effects of rate of capacity utilization below and above the optimal capacity utilization rate which provides the price stability is different. So, the relationship between the rates of inflation and capacity utilization is asymmetric.

Bu çalışma, fiyat istikrarının sağlandığı optimal kapasite kullanım oranının altındaki ve üstündeki kapasite kullanım oranlarıyla enflasyon arasındaki ilişkinin simetrik olup olmadığını incelemektedir. Bu amaçla öncelikle Türkiye örneği için 1987:1-2004:4 dönemi fiyat istikrarının sağlandığı optimal bir kapasite kullanım oranı araştırılmıştır. Bu oran ortalama % 76 olarak bulunmuştur. Bu oranın altında ve üstündeki kapasite kullanım oranlarının enflasyonu etkileme dereceleri farklı bulunmuştur. Bu durumda, enflasyon ve kapasite kullanım oranları arasındaki ilişkinin asimetrik olduğu ortaya çıkmıştır.
