Abstract (2. Language):
Several viruses have been known to infect common bean (Phasoulus vulgaris L.) and cause yield losses. Bean common mosaic virus (BCMV) and Bean common mosaic necrosis virus (BCMNV) are the most widespread virus species infecting common bean in all over the world. The use of resistant varieties has been considered to be most effective approach to control these viruses. There are several varieties developed resistant to BCMV and BCMNV, and efforts in breeding new varieties are continuing around the world. It is important to know resistance mechanism and plant-virus interactions for breeding resistant varieties. It has been shown that there is gene-for-gene interactions between resistance genes and the pathogenesis-related genes of BCMV and BCMNV in common bean, and this information has improved the success of resistance breeding studies. The dominant I gene and recessive bc genes play roles in regulation of hypersensitive reaction and limiting the spread of the virus through plant, respectively, in common bean.
