Although corporate social responsibility concept is not a recent concept of literature, the importance given and interest to this subject is pretty new. Especially at the international business world with the scandals of accounting and finance the trusts of consumers to the managers and corporates were shaken at the end of 1990's and beginning of 2000's, as a result of this the interests to "business morals" and "corporate management" subjects increased and at this process "corporate social responsibility" concept take over more excessively day by day.

Kurumsal sosyal sorumluluk kavramı, literatüre yeni girmiş bir kavram olmamasına karşın konuya verilen önem ve duyulan ilgi oldukça yenidir. Özellikle uluslararası iş dünyasında muhasebe ve finansla ilgili olarak ortaya çıkan skandallarla birlikte 1990'ların sonu ile 2000'lerin başında, tüketicilerin yöneticilere ve kurumlara olan güvenleri sarsılmış, bunun sonucunda da "iş ahlakı" ve "kurumsal yönetim" konularına olan ilgi giderek artmış ve bu süreçte "kurumsal sosyal sorumluluk" kavramı günden güne daha fazla ön plana çıkmaya başlamıştır.
