The current study is a literature review – qualitative analysis study, through which the socialpsychological theories and research findings on ‘self-concept’ are presented and evaluated regarding the characters of Kürk Mantolu Madonna, Sabahattin Ali’s novel. The study is composed of three main parts. In the first part, the social psychological theories and research findings on the structure, processes and the contents of ‘self-concept’ are presented in a systematic manner. In the second part, the novel’s characters and their mutual dynamic relationships are evaluated and analyzed qualitatively through the concepts of self-worth, selfesteem, self-verification and attachment theory. And in the last part, the findings of qualitative analysis were discussed in the light of the literature and some research questions on the selfconception were generated to be examined in the future.

Bu çalışma, ‘benlik-kendilik’ kavramı ile ilgili soysal-psikolojik kuram ve araştırma bulgularının sunulduğu ve Sabahattin Ali’nin Kürk Mantolu Madonna romanının karakterleri bağlamında değerlendirildiği bir derleme - niteliksel çözümleme çalışmasıdır. Çalışma üç ana bölümden oluşmaktadır. İlk bölümde benliğin yapısı, süreçleri ve içeriğiyle ilgili kuram ve araştırma bulguları sistematik bir çerçevede sunulmaktadır. İkinci bölümde roman karakterleri ve karşılıklı dinamik etkileşimleri, benlik değeri, benliğin yüceltilmesi, benliğin doğrulanması kavramları ile bağlanma kuramı çerçevesinde değerlendirilmekte ve niteliksel olarak çözümlenmektedir. Son bölümde ise roman karakterlerinin niteliksel analiziyle ortaya çıkan bulgular, ilgili literatür ışığında tartışılmakta ve ‘benlik/kendilik’ kavramıyla ilgili çalışmalara yol gösterecek araştırma soruları ortaya konmaktadır.
