Publication Year:

Abstract (2. Language):
Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the effect of four different polishing applications on surface contact angle of composite samples after polimerizing with a halogen light unit. Method: A hybrid composite resin (Filtek-Z250) was used in the study. The composite resin samples (“10mm diameter x 2mm high”) were prepared in cylindirical teflon molds and samples were polymerized with a halogen light unit. Then they were ground with a 600 grid carborundum paper. Four different polishing procedures were applied on surfaces of samples; 1- Polishing discs set (Kerr-Hawe), 2- Light-polimerized polishing burnish (BisCover-LV), 3- Polishing pat/finishing discs/rubber (Enhance; Prisma Gloss), 4- Polishing pat/finishing discs/rubber (Enhance; Prisma Gloss Extra-Fine) (n=7). “Contact-Angle Measurement Device” (Easy Drop Gonyo-meter, Krüss, Hamburg, Germany) was used to measure the contact angles of samples. The right and left contact angles of each drop were measured with “droplet method” and mean ranges were calculated.Two-way variance analyse and Dunnet-T3 multi-comparison test were used for statistical analyses (p<0,05). Results: Statistical differences were found on the effects of different polishing procedures (p<0,05). The lowest surface contact angle values were gained with polishing pat/finishing discs/rubber set (Enhance; Prisma Gloss), and the highest surface contact angle values were obtained with light-polimerized polishing burnish (BisCover-LV). Discussion: The lowest surface contact angle may be obtained by a polishing pat/finishing discs/rubber set.
