Abstract (2. Language):
Events and states that occur in our minds, such as feelings of pain or pleasure; thoughts, beliefs, desires and worries; sensations of color, smell and sound; itches and tickles; feeling cold or hot; expectations and rememberings; feelings of anger, joy, thirst, hunger and boredom are called mental states. What is that “thing” called “mind,” which is the seat of mental states? What is the relationship between body, in particular brain (more generally, the central nervous system), and mind? The problem of accounting for the nature of the relationship between brain and mind is called the “body-mind problem” in philosophy. In this paper, I explain some of the basic problems, puzzles and concepts of the contemporary analytic philosophy of the mind. In addition, I will talk about the difference between consciousness and mind.
