This article aims to analyze “Woe from Wit” by A. S. Griboyedov (1794-1829) in terms of the new style and characterization that the play brought to the Russian comedy writing, emphasizing the effects of the historical circumstances of the era and the literary arguments on the way of modernization process in between the reigns of Yaketerina II. and Nikolay I.
