Abstract (2. Language):
The concept of meaning is studied basically under the fields of semantics and pragmatics, and context is generally dealt with in the latter. Some conceptual problems may arise while translating them into Turkish. The former is translated as ‘anlambilim – meaning science’, and the latter as ‘edimbilim – act science / kullanımbilim – use science’. This paper deals with both semantics and pragmatics in terms of context and use and exemplifies them. New categorisations for both context and use are suggested and the operators that enables the transition from semantic meaning to pragmatic meaning are emphasized.
