Completely edentulous maxillae opposing partially edentulous mandibles are common situations. Specific oral destructive changes are often seen in patients with a maxillary complete denture and a mandibuler bilateral distal extension partial denture. Premature anterior occlusal contact cause extensive intraoral hard and soft tissue damage. In 1972 Kelly described five destructive changes that occur in these patients and called these changes the combination syndrome.In addition to these five changes,Saunders et al. noted six other associated changes that may also occur. In this study, the prevalence of symptoms associated with combination syndrome were examined in 88 maxillary complete denture wearers.

Çenelerden biri tamamen dişşiz, diğer çenede ise doğal dişlerinin hepsi veya bir kısmı bulunan hastaların sayısı oldukça fazladır. Bu tür klinik durumlarda her vaka için teşhis ve tedavi planı farklılıklar göstermektedir. Üst çenede tam protez ve alt çenedede iki taraflı serbest sonlanan bölümlü protez kullanan vakalarda özel bazı ağız içi değişiklikler görülmektedir. Bu hastalarda aşırı anterior oklüzal temaslara bağlı olarak ağız içindeki sert ve yumuşak dokularda değişiklikler ortaya çıkmaktadır. Bu vakalarda görülen beş değişikliği 1972 yılında Kelly bir grup altında toplamış ve Kombinasyon sendromu adını vermiştir. Bu çalışmada Atatürk Üniversitesi Dişhekimliği Fakültesi Protetik Diş Tedavisi Kliniğine başvuran ve üst tam protez kullanan 88 hastada Kombinasyon sendromunun görülme sıklığı incelenmiştir
