MEME KANSERLİ VE SAĞLIKLI KİŞİLERDE β-KAROTEN, A VİTAMİNİ ve E VİTAMİNİ DÜZEYLERİNİN ÜÇ AYRI PARAMETRESİZ TEST ARACILIĞIYLA

Bilimsel araştırmalarda gruplararası karşılaştırılmalar yapılırken yöntem seçiminin uygun olmaması, değerlendirmede hatalı sonuçlara ulaşılmasına neden olur.
İncelenen örnek gruplarından n1 ve/veya n2< 30 ise ve/veya örnek gruplarına ait varyanslar homojen değilse parametrik olmayan testlerin kullanılması önerilir.
Bu çalışmada, varyansları farklı olan iki bağımsız örnek grubuna ait değerlerin hem Mann-Whitney U testi, hem Smith Satterthwaite ve hem de Cochran Cox yöntemleri ile değerlendirilmesi amaçlanmıştır.
Bu araştırmada, meme kanserli (n=23) ve kanser olmayan (n=10) olguların yer aldığı iki bağımsız örnek grubu ile çalışıldı. Bu iki grupta ß-karoten, A vitamini ve E vitamini değişkenlerinin düzeyleri değerlendirildi. β karoten ve E vitamini değişkenlerin, Smith-Satterthwaite, Cochran-Cox ve Mann-Whitney U yöntemleriyle değerlendirilmesinde iki bağımsız grup ortalamaları arasındaki fark anlamlı 6
bulunmazken, aynı yöntemlerle değerlendirilen A vitamini sonuçlarına göre iki grup ortalamasının istatistiksel olarak farklı olduğu saptandı.

The use of unsuitable statistical techniques to compare statistics calculated on different groups may often result in erroneous conclusions.
As it is widely known, while working with small samples (n1 and /or n2< 30) or with samples having non-homogeneous variances, it is much safer to use non-parametric techniques.
In this study aiming at comparing the means of two independent samples, Mann-Whitney U test, Smith Satterthwaite and Cochran Cox methods were used.
Levels of β carotene, vitamin A and E in two independent groups consisting respectively of 23 patients with breast cancer and of 10 healthy people were compared using the above – mentioned tests.
While no significant difference could be found between the levels of β carotene and of vitamin E, the difference betweeen the mean levels of vitamin A was statistically significant.
