In this study, the determination of male and female footballers’ characteristic features and the perception of their own bodies
were aimed at. In the first part of the study, Giessen test- Ben form was applied to the footballers to evaluate the characteristic concepts
and learn the thoughts of the individual about him/herself. After that, multi-purpose body-self relation quantity (MBSRQ) self evaluation
form was used to evaluate the body image structure of footballers’ self mannered sides.
Totally 80 female footballers whose age vary from 18 to 26 and who play at Turkish Ladies Football League and 40
professional footballers who play at First Amateur League had participated in this research.
In the evaluation of the obtained data, SPSS 10.0 statistical programme had been used. According to normality examination,
for the data which fits to normal dispersion, t-test was applied and for the data which does not fit to normal dispersion, Mann- Whitney U
test was applied.
At the end of the statistical analyses, meaningful variances were determined in male and female footballers’ characteristic
concepts and self –evaluation in the 1st and 3rd scales (p< 0.05). It was found out that male footballers are not attractive, not likeable,
can not do whatever they want and do not give value to look nice , on the other hand, female footballers are attractive, likeable, can do
whatever they want, and give importance to look nice. Besides, it was determined that male footballers are uncontrolled, also uncontrolled in spending money, untidy and quiet but female footballers are controlled, also controlled in spending money, tidy and
sensitive.
It was determined that in male and female footballers’ perception of body, there is a meaningful variance in the variable of
gender (p<0,05).There are statistical variances in the Evaluation of the Aspect, Aspect Orientation, the Evaluation of Physical
Sufficiency, Physical Sufficiency Orientation, Health Evaluation and Body –self Relations. In these comparisons, it was the determined
that the points of female footballers are higher than the points of male footballers in Aspect Evaluation, Aspect Orientation, Evaluation of
Physical sufficiency, Physical Sufficiency Orientation, Health Evaluation and Body-Self relation.
